Research Statement:
Professor Kaarbo's research focuses on the role of coalition politics in foreign policy, prime minister leadership styles, and regime differences in international negotiations. Recent published work includes: "Coalition Cabinet Decision Making: Institutional and Psychological Factors" in International Studies Review, "Taking it to the Extreme: The Effect of Coalition Cabinets on Foreign Policy" (with Beasley) in Foreign Policy Analysis, Global Politics (with Ray, Cengage), Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective (with Beasley, Lantis, and Snarr, CQ Press), and "When and How Parliaments Influence Foreign Policy" (with Kesgin) in International Studies Perspectives. She has recently served as Program Chair and President of the Foreign Policy Analysis section of the International Studies Association and as a member of the Governing Council of the International Society of Political Psychology. She was awarded a visiting research fellowship by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey for the Spring 2009 semester.
