Dr. Childers's research and teaching are in the areas of rhetoric and political communication, paying particular attention to questions of democratic citizenship. He is the author of The Evolving Citizen: American Youth and the Changing Norms of Democratic Engagement (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2012), and the co-author (with Roderick P. Hart andColene J. Lind) of Political Tone: How Leaders Talk and Why (University of Chicago Press, 2013). He has also authored a number of essays, including pieces that have appeared in Presidential Studies QuarterlyQuarterly Journal of Speech, and Western Journal of Communication.
